Is there any way to dress up a bed using only sheet set and comforter?
Filed in Sheet Set on Dec.14, 2009
We can’t get a bed skirt under our mattress because it is too heavy to lift. Have not been able to find any bedspreads that we really like. Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Go to some upscale home goods stores to find a really great comforter. Splurge a little! These things are investments; they last forever. Find one in a design that really “pops” to you– either matching with the rest of your room or just something that you really like! I don’t know your style or your age, but here are some really beautiful ones that you might like http://www.potterybarn.com/shop/bedding/duvet-covers-shams/patterned-duvet-covers-shams/index.cfm?page=viewall These are great too http://thegreatindoors.resultspage.com/dav/catsub/beddingmattresses_fashionbedding_duvets/cat/beddingmattresses/0 Martha Stewart has some really nice ones too.
If you really want to have something that represents yourself, you can get one custom-made. It will definitely be more pricey, but it can be really worth it. Also, if you are crafty, you can buy a solid duvet cover and design it yourself! Have fun with it, good luck

if funds r tight, then yes. I have found clearance sheets, duvet’ (sp) covers that u could put over u’r existing bedspread or comforter. IF it’s solid, then cut out material from other sheets & applique’ them on the sheet w/ design. If u feel real creative, craft stores sell paint made for fabric & u could either do a stamp.. or stencil or paint. It doesn’t have to be the greatest. Look @ comforters… some prints r like famous painters.
practice on old sheets & take a deep breathe & GO 4 IT!
as far as bed skirt…. again sheets…. if u’r not a sewer… they have this stuff call “stitch witchery” that u cut out & put between 2 pieces of material & iron it so it could have a seam so to say… Measure u’r bed…all the way around ( probably 3 sides since the 4 th is usually used for walls or headboards) then double those inches. Then invest in velcro & place on top of bottom mattress & the other on the material… & gather it a bit as u go… matter of fact u may want to go less than double , that way u have some gather here & there & esp the corners. & VIOLA… bed skirt
B creative & have fun!

Bed skirts are made by a few people in an elasticized manner or with Velcro. Also, if those aren’t an option, you can get a few yards of a perfect fabric to go with your comforter, get some T-pins from your sewing supply store, and pin it around. You’ll need to hem them when you measure the drop, of course.
