There are king/cal.king sets out there, but whats the difference between those and the ones that say king only?

In the US, King size bed = 76 in × 80 in and a California king = 72 in × 84 in. California is slightly longer but less wide.

No.
King is “square” 6′ x 6′ roughly
Cal King is rectangular shape, longer than a King, but narrower in width.
We’ve tried before — King-size doesn’t fit our Cal-King.
Cal-Kings aren’t that hard to find, you just have to do some looking around.
We’ve found them at Bed Bath & Beyond (cheap, too), sometimes at Big-Lots/PicNSave, all the major department stores should carry a few of them instock.

Cal kings are longer beds and king bed sheets will be too short.
